Australian Lunar Series III 2023 $1 Year of the Rabbit 1oz .999 Silver Proof Coloured Coin Perth Mint

$179.99

The race

According to Legend, the emperor commanded a great race to decide which animals would appear in the lunar zodiac. As part of the course, each animal had to cross a fast-flowing river. The nimble rabbit used stepping stones before floating on a log to reach the opposite bank in fourth place.

Those born under the sign of the lunar rabbit in 2023, 2011, 1999, 1987, 1975 and every 12th preceding year, are said to be intelligent, creative, vigilant and compassionate.

Design

The coin portrays a coloured representation of a rabbit, alert and with its ears erect, and another rabbit stretching towards a budding branch. Included in the design is the Chinese character for ‘rabbit’, the inscription ‘RABBIT 2023’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

Packaging

The coin comes in classic display case featuring a clear magnetic lid with a geometric design. Each has a numbered certificate of authenticity. The case is housed in an illustrated shipper portraying the final stage of the race, during which the rabbit called upon its resourcefulness to successfully cross a river. Each shipper in the series can be arrayed together to form a diorama depicting the exploits of all 12 auspicious animals.

Australian Lunar Series III

Each Australian lunar series from The Perth Mint is based on the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac. Coin collectors are besotted with each annual release, hence the longevity of the 12-year series.

Established in 1996, The Perth Mint was the first to release an Australian lunar coin program. Due to its success, it is now in its third series.

Made with the fine gold, silver and platinum in combination with intricate craftsmanship, these Australian lunar collector coins explore the ancient tradition and mythical folklore of the Chinese Great Race.
