Koi fish are valued for their beauty and serenity. Synonymous with harmony and happiness, koi are often portrayed as two halves of the yin yang symbol. Known for their energy and tenacity, which allow them to swim against strong currents, koi are popularly associated with strength, determination, and success. And because the Chinese pronunciation of the word yú (fish) sounds like the term for riches, koi are also strongly linked to wealth and prosperity.
The coin’s high relief design portrays three koi fish swimming in a pebble lined stream with water lily flowers floating on the surface. The design is ‘antiqued’ to give it a unique finish conveying the surface abrasions of an ancient artefact. Also included on the reverse is the coin’s weight, purity, and year-date. Each coin in the mintage is individually edge numbered from 1 to 200.
The coin bears The Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Obverse, featuring the Jody Clark effigy supplemented with the dates of Her Majesty’s reign, and the monetary denomination.
Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, the coin is housed in a translucent case which comes in a black wooden presentation box.
