Struck from 2oz of 99.99% pure silver, this stunning piece marking the Year of the Dragon has an antiqued surface, a coin treatment that tones the natural lustre of silver to convey the look of an aged artefact.
Commands respect
The fifth animal of the ancient lunar calendar, the dragon commands the highest respect in Chinese culture. For thousands of years, it was associated with the emperor and his descendants, symbolising wisdom, enlightenment, and benevolence. The dragon was also said to command water and rain, and by ensuring abundant harvests became a powerful symbol of wealth and good fortune.
Dragon design
The coin portrays a beneficent dragon with water cascading from its mouth. The design’s detailed background includes representations of a village, a pagoda, a river, a ‘moon’ bridge, traditional Chinese boats, mountains, and swirling clouds. Also included on the reverse is a ‘P125’ mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.
Memorial Obverse
The coin bears the Jody Clark Memorial Obverse of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II supplemented with the dates of her reign ‘1952-2022’, as well as the weight and finesses, and the monetary denomination.
Presentation packaging
Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, the coin comes in a classic display case with a clear lid, and an illustrated shipper. When arrayed with other shippers from the series, the resulting diorama depicts the legend of The Great Race, in which 12 animals successfully compete for a position in the lunar zodiac.
