Traditionally regarded as the embodiment of the Emperor, the Chinese dragon is revered as benevolent, noble and is a potent symbol of abundance and good fortune. The coin’s reverse portrays a powerful Chinese dragon clasping a pearl in one of its claws. The creature’s red and gold colouring is associated with joy and wealth. As well as the Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the design includes representations of clouds, denoting the dragon’s celestial realm. The Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse of the coin together with its weight, purity, monetary denomination, and year-date.
