Australia 1984 First Elizabeth II $1 & 2023 First Charles III $1 Aluminium-Bronze Uncirculated Coin Set

$39.95

A crucial acquisition for every decimal collector, this limited edition set unites the FIRST $1 coin of Queen Elizabeth II with the FIRST $1 coin of her son and successor, King Charles III!

Representing a key landmark in Australian currency history, the first Queen Elizabeth II $1 was also the very first Australian $1 coin. Replacing the $1 banknote due its greater durability and cost-effectiveness, the first $1 was issued in 1984, and unites the original decimal portrait of the queen by Arnold Machin with Stuart Devlin’s Mob of Kangaroos motif. Importantly, this is the only issued $1 bearing the Machin portrait, rendering it an utterly unique type!

The first King Charles III $1, and also the first Australian coin of his reign to be issued for circulation, this first-of-its-kind type is also graced with Stuart Devlin’s iconic Mob of Roos design. On the obverse, you will find the official portrait of the king by the Royal Mint’s Dan Thorne. Remarkably, this is the first time in 70 years that the obverse of an Australian coin has carried a portrait other than that of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Struck by the Royal Australian Mint nearly four decades apart, both Australian legal tender coins are included in strictly Uncirculated quality. Protecting that mint state quality for the long-term, each coin is presented within an attractive pack. Impressive and affordable, the 1984 First Elizabeth II $1 2023 First Charles III $1 Al-Br Coin Pair is also very exclusive.
