Outback guardian
The wedge-tailed eagle is a striking emblem of Australia’s vast landscapes. With a wingspan of up to 2.8 metres, it soars effortlessly on thermal currents, often reaching heights above 2,000 metres. Its distinctive wedge-shaped tail and feathered legs make it instantly recognisable as it surveys the terrain below. Found across mainland Australia and Tasmania, this powerful raptor captures the spirit of freedom and endurance in the Australian skies.
Eagle pair design
The coin’s ultra high relief design features the head of a wedge-tailed eagle in the foreground, and a bald eagle behind it—a nod to the 250th anniversary of US independence celebrated on 4 July 2026. Both birds are portrayed majestically gazing to the right. The outer rim and image are gilded in 24-carat gold. The design includes the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, together with the coin’s weight, purity, and 2026 year-date.
